An initiative to help the marginalized

My name is Aleah Bisrat and I am the founder of HOPE FOR GERGESENON, an initiative close to my heart to lend a hand of support for Gergesenon – the home for the forgotten run by heros.

I had the privilege to visit the men's housing of the small institution, made of many volunteers (heroes), some staff), one ambulance driver, and a medical personnel sponsored by Amanuel Hospital, the only hospital forpeople with mental disorders and health illnesses in the country.

During the visit, I also learned that Gergesenon depends fully on small donations by the people. The housing is a rental property, very basic on not optimal for such use. More to that in the end. The food is prepared on a wood fire, which is donated. On that very day, they had to skip tea in the morning for breakfast, as donations were dry, which happens from time to time. When we went inside to greet the people, I spotted a young teenager in the receiving room for newcomers. It was evident that all of them had been neglected in some way.

At that moment I realized this is bigger than just me. I needed to do my best to help. The government has already given land for the construction of a proper building. Such would enable Gergesenon to house many more people and in a much more convenient dignified way for the population brought in to the volunteers (heros) and staff. I immediately thought that I had to come up with a plan to help raise funds for the new construction.

I thought, if everyone who read this, went to my website was to shaken some kind of way, they would definitely spare some pocket change or more for this human cause. No writing does justice to how conditions are for these people. The heroes and workers are doing their very best within their means, but wealth and luck is not distributed fairly. Any amount you are willing to give makes some kind of change. I would like to thank you in advance for your kindness and for joining the group of our heroes.
